Hydrometers and Refractometers
A hydrometer is an essential tool for every brew day, allowing you to measure the Original Gravity and Final Gravity of your wort and beer. It not only helps determine the ABV but also provides valuable insights into yeast health and the effectiveness of fermentation.
Alternatively, a refractometer requires a smaller liquid sample and can be useful for measuring mash efficiency and sugar extraction in All Grain brewing, but a special calculator is needed to measure Final Gravity accurately in the presence of alcohol.
An alcometer is for distilled alcohol only. It cannot be used for beer, wine or any other fermented beverage.
