Imperial Stout - Toronto Brewing All-Grain Recipe Kit (5 Gallon/19 Litre)
Traditionally brewed to a massive gravity and hopping level in England for export to the Baltic States and Russia. Said to have been popular with the Russian Imperial Court. Today Russian Imperial Stouts are even more popular with American craft brewers, who have extended the style with unique American characteristics.
Our version of a Russian Imperial Stout uses Maris Otter for it's biscuity base and then adds chocolate malt and roasted barley for intense roasted and coffee flavours. To this a considerable amount of hops balance the high alcohol levels and bring a fresh, piney flavour.
NOTE: High ABV beers take longer to brew and generally taste better with time. This would be an excellent style for aging or conditioning on different additional ingredients to add flavours.
