Chinook is a highly versatile hop that works well in American-style Pale Ales, IPAs, seasonal ales, and even some porters and stouts. With a pine-like, spicy bouquet full of grapefruit flavour, it’s destined to become your favourite hop!

Chinook hop was created in 1974 at the new National Clean Plant Network of the US Department of Agriculture by scientist Chuck Zimmerman. Come 1985, Chinook was made public and available for anyone that wanted to grow it. What makes Chinook interesting is the fact that it has Neomexicanus genetics in it.

Chinook is considered to be one of the four C's of hops (Cascade, Centennial, Columbus, and Chinook). In fact, it might even be in the top 10 hops grown in the U.S., predominantly in the far Northwest (Washington, Idaho, and Oregon).

As for the taste, in the beginning, Chinook will give you a great bitterness, but it also has resins and aromas, which can definitely help at the end of the boil. Chinook can be used either as a single hop or mixed with other hops.
